Young Enterprise Gets a Boost
Breyer Foundation has provided a grant for £3,300 to Young Enterprise for their Inspiring Futures work with schools in London and the South East.
Inspiring Futures focuses on enabling young people from the most disadvantaged and deprived areas to develop and apply key skills, confidence and an enterprising mindset. The programme supports them in making a transition into the world of work and blends interventions that:
• Raise aspirations through encounters with role models.
• Develop key skills such as leadership, confidence, communication, teamwork.
• Develop a resourceful approach, enabling young people to apply skills they have learnt.
The year-long programme enables young people to set up and run their own Young Enterprise Company with the support of business mentors, helping them to develop and apply skills in a real-world context. They will experience a variety of disciplines, including market research, developing business ideas, assigning job roles and responsibilities, as well as marketing and selling products online and at trade fairs.
Deborah Gascoyne, Philanthropy Officer for Young Enterprise, commented:
“Thank you so much to Breyer Foundation for this grant. It will ensure that another school will benefit from our Inspiring Futures programme, providing more young people who face disadvantage with the opportunity to develop the experience, skills, confidence and enterprising mindset they need to thrive in the world of work.
“What’s more, the funds from Breyer Foundation will go beyond the year’s Inspiring Future programme. It will also enable us to support children in the long-term through building networks and providing access to further support, training and work experience opportunities for them.”
